April 30, 2013 – Kamasi Washington Album Recording Session – Eagle Rock, CA

Sang background vocals with full choir at the album recording session today April 30 for Kamasi Washington’s upcoming Brainfeeder album in Eagle Rock.

Commentary:  Whoa! The music I heard and sang on today reminded me of classic Yusef Lateef, Max Roach + Abbey Lincoln and David Axelrod with live band, strings and full choir. Kamasi is creating a masterpiece. I was in a sound room with 3 male tenor/baritones and 6 female alto/sopranos while Kamasi stood in front of us and conducted. It was inspiring to watch him in his element. I (we) also had to sight read vocal charts and it was a wonderful exercise. Hadn’t done it since college. And to top it all off masters Miles Mosely and Tony Austin engineered/produced. What an honor! I will repost when the album drops and make sure you know when to buy it. I don’t know the title but stay posted for what is sure to be a major musical event.

March 20, 2012 – Nick Rosen “Violet” Album Release on Porter Records (US) – Worldwide

Multi-instrumentalist, song writer, singer, Nick Rosen takes his latest release “Violet” into a new direction of folk, soul, pop and jazz.  Each track is uniquely different yet there is a common thread of Rosen’s tasteful approach to song writing.  Melodic pop songs fall away into burning groves of modern day soul that intern blend into an intimate jazz trio. None of the tracks on the album have any editing and most songs were first or second takes.  “I really wanted to capture the moment and was less concerned with perfection, I wanted the emotion of me in the studio with the person or persons that I was doing the track with…” says Rosen. Additional musicians for this project included: Anthony Valadez, Sam Barsh, Paris Carney, Greg Garbowsy, Maiya Sykes, and Dexter Story.
